Supporting your business

Effective March 19, the new reduction in fuel excise taxes announced by the government will take effect, with a reduction of 25 centesimi per liter on gasoline and diesel and 12 centesimi per kilogram on LPG. This is an important measure for families, motorists, trucking companies, and fuel industry operators, designed to counter the rise in oil prices linked to crises in international markets.

The measure is contained in the decree-law titled “Urgent Provisions Regarding Oil Prices Related to Crises in International Markets,” approved by the Council of Ministers and signed by the President of the Republic. The measure will initially be in effect for 20 days, starting March 19.

Price Cuts on Gasoline, Diesel, and LPG: What's Changing

Thanks to the reduction in excise taxes, an immediate drop in prices at the pump is expected:

  • Gasoline: -25 cents per liter
  • Diesel: -25 cents per liter
  • LPG: -12 cents per kilogram

This measure provides tangible support for those who use their vehicles on a daily basis and for all businesses that are heavily dependent on fuel costs.

Gas Stations: New Price Requirements

To ensure greater transparency and combat potential speculation, the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy (MIMIT) has introduced new rules for oil companies.

For the next three months, in fact, companies will be required to:

  • report their recommended prices to MIMIT
  • publish their official price lists
  • comply with the Price Regulator’s monitoring system

There will be stricter inspections and potential penalties for failure to comply with these provisions.

Strengthened Measures Against Fuel Speculation

The government has also established a monitoring system covering the entire fuel supply chain, with the aim of identifying price anomalies and combating speculative practices.

The monitoring activities will include:

  • constant monitoring of prices at the pump
  • inspections of oil companies
  • reports to the relevant authorities
  • interventions by the Guardia di Finanza and the Price Regulator

These measures aim to protect consumers and industry operators.

Fuel Bonus for Trucking and Fishing

In addition to the excise tax cut, the decree provides specific aid for two sectors particularly affected by the rise in fuel costs.

Trucking Sector

Trucking companies will be eligible for an extraordinary tax credit calculated based on the increased expenses incurred in March, April, and May compared to February 2026.

Fishing Sector

For the fishing sector, a tax credit of up to 20% of the expenses incurred for the purchase of fuel in March, April, and May 2026 is provided.

The operational procedures will be defined in subsequent implementing decrees.

A Strategic Measure for the Fuel Sector

The excise tax cut represents a strategic measure to support the fuel market, ease the cost burden on citizens and businesses, and ensure greater control over prices at gas stations.

For those operating in the fuel retail sector, staying up to date on regulations, prices, and disclosure requirements is essential to offering a transparent, competitive service that complies with the new provisions.

Keeping pace with developments in the fuel market means providing customers with reliable information and tangible benefits at a time when there is intense focus on the prices of gasoline, diesel, and LPG.
